I was making regular payments on my student loan according to the original payment arrangement. Without warning, the lender increased the required payment to approximately $1000.00 per month. I explained that I could not afford that amount and continued making the payment amount that had previously been agreed upon.
After my husband passed away, I contacted the lender and explained that I had lost a household income and was now living on one income. At their request, I submitted a copy of my husbands death certificate. Despite my circumstances, I was told during a phone conversation that they did not care and wanted their money.
I continued making the minimum payments I could afford. However, the lender repeatedly called me, sometimes as many as six times per day. Then, without a clear explanation, I received a letter stating that the loan had been closed and that I had failed to make payments.
The lender also locked me out of my online account. I could no longer access the account to make payments, and I was unable to get anyone to restore my access or provide another reasonable way to continue paying. The lender then reported the loan to the credit bureaus as unpaid, even though I had been making payments and had attempted to continue doing so.
This negative information has remained on my credit history for approximately OVER 10 years! During that time, I have been unable to obtain credit, purchase a home, qualify for favorable financing, or move forward with important financial goals. I have also suffered financial hardship, emotional distress, and significant damage to my creditworthiness.
I strongly DISPUTE the claim that I failed to repay this loan. I was making payments, but the lender increased the required payment to an amount I could not afford, closed the account, blocked my access, prevented me from continuing to make payments, and then reported that I had failed to pay. I believe this conduct was unfair, deceptive, and fraudulent.
I am requesting a complete investigation into the lenders payment records, account closure, repeated collection calls, denial of account access, and reporting to the credit bureaus.
I am also DEMANDING : 1. Immediate correction or deletion of all inaccurate information reported to the credit bureaus.
2. Written confirmation that my payment history and account status have been corrected.
3. A full accounting of all payments, fees, interest, and charges applied to the loan.
4. Reimbursement of any fees, interest, or other amounts that were improperly charged or collected.
5. COMPENSATON for the financial losses and damage to my credit caused by the inaccurate reporting.
6. CCOMPENSATION for any denied credit, higher interest rates, lost housing opportunities, and other documented damages.
7. A written explanation of why my account was closed and why I was prevented from continuing to make payments.
Please preserve all account notes, telephone recordings, payment records, correspondence, credit-reporting records, internal communications, and documents related to my account.
I am asking for IMMEDIATE help resolving this matter, correcting my credit history, and compensating me for the harm caused by the lenders actions.
This is clear preditory lending!
