Attempts to collect debt not owed: Debt collection
I am filing this complaint regarding a collection account for approximately $2900.00 that is being reported despite substantial evidence that the information is inaccurate, inconsistent, and unreliable. The company is furnishing contradictory information regarding the same account. One credit reporting agency reflects an alleged collection balance, while another reports the account as closed with a $0.00 balance. These materially different reports can not both be accurate. The existence of such discrepancies demonstrates that the information being furnished is not being maintained or reported with the level of accuracy required under federal law. I have disputed this account and challenged the validity of the alleged debt. Despite my dispute, the company continues to report the account without providing sufficient evidence that I owe the amount claimed. I have not been provided with documentation establishing the legal basis for the debt, a complete accounting of the balance, or competent evidence demonstrating that the amount being reported is accurate. The continued reporting of unverified and contradictory information has caused substantial harm. This collection account has damaged my credit standing, impaired my ability to obtain housing, and subjected me to adverse financial consequences. Consumers should not be forced to suffer credit damage based on information that can not be consistently verified and accurately reported. I believe the company has failed to meet its obligations to ensure maximum possible accuracy before furnishing derogatory information to consumer reporting agencies. The reporting of conflicting account statuses and balances raises serious concerns regarding the adequacy of the company 's investigation procedures and the reliability of the information being furnished. I request an immediate and comprehensive investigation into this matter. I further request that the company produce all documents supporting its claim, including the original agreement, complete account history, itemized charges, payment records, evidence of ownership or assignment of the debt, and documentation establishing the legal authority to collect and report the account. If the company can not provide competent documentary evidence establishing that the debt is accurate, valid, and legally enforceable, the collection account should be deleted from all consumer reporting agencies immediately. Any information that can not be fully verified should not continue to be reported. The ongoing reporting of a disputed account while contradictory information exists across credit reporting agencies is unacceptable and undermines the integrity of consumer credit reporting. I request immediate corrective action, deletion of any unverifiable information, and written confirmation of the results of the investigation.
