Attempts to collect debt not owed: Debt collection
* * Consumer Financial Protection Bureau Complaint * * I am filing this complaint regarding a collection account reported by Jefferson Capital LLC with a reported balance of * * $53.00 * *. I dispute the accuracy and completeness of this account because the information being furnished to the consumer reporting agencies is insufficient for me to determine whether the debt is valid. The tradeline lists the * * Original Creditor Name * * as " No Info '' and the * * Account Type * * as " No Info. '' Without identifying the original creditor or providing any supporting documentation, I am unable to verify that this debt belongs to me or that the amount being reported is accurate. Under the * * Fair Credit Reporting Act ( 15 U.S.C. 1681s-2 ) * *, companies that furnish information to consumer reporting agencies have a legal obligation to report information that is accurate, complete, and capable of being verified. Reporting a collection account while omitting essential identifying information calls into question whether the information being reported complies with these requirements. Additionally, under the * * Fair Debt Collection Practices Act ( 15 U.S.C. 1692g ) * *, consumers have the right to receive validation of an alleged debt. To date, I have not received sufficient documentation establishing : * The identity of the original creditor. * The agreement or other evidence creating my legal obligation. * A complete payment and account history. * An explanation of how the reported balance was calculated. * Documentation demonstrating Jefferson Capital LLC 's legal authority to collect this alleged debt. Further, * * 15 U.S.C. 1692e * * prohibits debt collectors from using false, deceptive, or misleading representations regarding the legal status or amount of a debt. Continuing to report a collection account that lacks sufficient identifying information may result in inaccurate or misleading reporting. I request that Jefferson Capital LLC conduct a reasonable investigation and provide competent evidence supporting the validity and accuracy of this account. If the company can not fully verify the debt and comply with its obligations under the FCRA and FDCPA, I request that the collection account be permanently deleted from all consumer reporting agencies. Consumers are entitled to fair, accurate, and complete credit reporting. I respectfully request that this matter be investigated and corrected promptly.
