Charged upfront or unexpected fees: Debt or credit management
I am submitting this complaint regarding the handling of my CareCredit account issued by Synchrony Bank. In 2024, I financed a medically necessary root canal using CareCredit. My credit limit was $2500.00, and I charged approximately $900.00. Due to a series of unexpected hardships, I fell behind on my payments. While I understand that late fees may be assessed when payments are missed, I recently learned that approximately $620.00 of the $970.00 I have paid toward this account has been applied to late fees rather than substantially reducing my debt. These late fees are excessive in nature, reaching $41.00 in most instances. I believe that I wasnt properly explained this prior to the financial agreement. As a result, despite paying most of the amount I originally borrowed, very little of my payments have gone toward the balance for the dental procedure. I believe this outcome is excessive and warrants review. I am requesting that Synchrony Bank : * Conduct a full audit of my account. * Provide a complete accounting of all payments, fees, and interest. * Review whether the accumulated late fees were assessed appropriately. * Consider refunding or waiving some or all of the late fees. * Work with me to reach a fair resolution that allows my payments to reduce the principal balance. I am not disputing that I owed the original debt. My concern is that the amount of late fees has become disproportionate compared to the original balance, despite my good-faith efforts to make payments. I respectfully request that the CFPB review this matter and assist in facilitating a fair resolution.
