False statements or representation: Debt collection
I am disputing a collection account related to a former apartment lease because the balance being reported contains charges that I believe are inaccurate. After reviewing the information provided by the collection agency, I discovered that the balance includes a $930.00 security deposit charge. I dispute this charge because I was approved for the apartment without a security deposit requirement. To my knowledge, I was never required to pay a security deposit under the terms of my approval or lease agreement. Because the reported balance includes a $930.00 charge that I do not believe I owe, I believe the amount being reported to the credit bureaus is inaccurate. I am requesting documentation showing the legal basis for this charge, including any lease provisions, move-in documents, or other records demonstrating that a security deposit was required and remains owed. I also request a complete itemized accounting of the balance, including all charges, credits, payments, fees, and adjustments used to calculate the amount being collected and reported. This inaccurate reporting has negatively impacted my credit profile. If the company can not provide documentation supporting the $930.00 security deposit charge and the accuracy of the balance, I request that the account be corrected and any inaccurate information be removed from my credit reports. I am asking the CFPB to investigate this matter and require the company to substantiate the disputed charges or correct the reporting.
