Incorrect information on your report: Student loan
CONSUMER COMPLAINT AGAINST NELNET I am filing this complaint regarding the reporting of my student loan account by Nelnet. I believe Nelnet is furnishing inaccurate and misleading information to the consumer reporting agencies, causing harm to my credit profile and financial standing. The following inaccuracies require immediate investigation : 1. Improper Interest Reporting I have Direct Subsidized Student Loans for which the federal government is responsible for paying interest during certain qualifying periods. Despite this, interest has continued to be added to my account, causing my balance to increase. If Nelnet has reported balances that include improperly assessed interest, the information being furnished to the credit bureaus is inaccurate. 2. Unauthorized or Incorrect Forbearance Status My account reflects periods of forbearance that I do not recall requesting, authorizing, or agreeing to. If Nelnet placed my account into forbearance without my knowledge and subsequently reported information resulting from that status, the tradeline may contain inaccurate information regarding my repayment history and account status. 3. Income-Driven Repayment ( IDR ) Concerns I have participated in repayment programs where payments were reduced based on income. If my required payment was calculated at $0.00 or otherwise qualified for interest benefits under applicable federal programs, the continued accumulation and reporting of interest may be inaccurate and misleading. 4. Inaccurate Account Balance and Credit Reporting Because of the issues described above, I believe the balance being reported to the credit bureaus may be inaccurate. An inaccurate balance directly impacts creditworthiness and may cause financial harm. I am requesting that Nelnet provide complete documentation supporting every amount reported to the consumer reporting agencies. LEGAL BASIS FOR THIS COMPLAINT Under the Fair Credit Reporting Act ( FCRA ), furnishers of information have a duty to report information accurately and to conduct a reasonable investigation when a consumer disputes information. 15 U.S.C. 1681s-2 ( a ) requires furnishers to provide accurate information to consumer reporting agencies. 15 U.S.C. 1681s-2 ( b ) requires furnishers to conduct a reasonable investigation upon receiving notice of a dispute and to correct, modify, or delete information that can not be verified. If Nelnet can not verify the accuracy of the reported balance, interest charges, repayment status, or other account information, the information should be deleted from all consumer reporting agencies. REQUESTED RESOLUTION I request that Nelnet : Conduct a complete investigation of the tradeline. Provide all documents supporting the reported balance, interest calculations, repayment status, and reporting history. Correct any inaccurate information immediately. Delete the tradeline from all consumer reporting agencies if the information can not be fully verified or is found to be inaccurate. Provide written confirmation of the results of the investigation. The continued reporting of inaccurate information causes ongoing harm to my credit profile and financial opportunities. I request prompt resolution of this matter.
