Other features, terms, or problems: Credit card
I am filing this complaint because Wayfair/Citibank has repeatedly attempted to collect money that does not appear to be connected to any valid purchase, item, service, invoice, or bill of origin. This issue began after Wayfair/Citibank made billing errors on my account. During the process of trying to correct those errors, the company admitted more than once that the disputed amount was their mistake and that I owed nothing. Credits and/or corrections were issued based on those admitted errors. Despite that, I later received a different statement claiming that I owed money again. The new claimed balance is not connected to any purchase I made. It is not tied to any item, service, valid order, or original invoice. It appears to have been created by Wayfair/Citibank without a legitimate bill of origin. I have the original receipts for all purchases made through Wayfair, along with payment records confirming that the purchases were paid in full at the time of purchase or through the original invoice payment. I made no additional purchases that would support the new balance Wayfair/Citibank is attempting to collect. Wayfair/Citibank can not identify what item, service, purchase date, order number, or invoice created this balance. Instead, the company has issued conflicting statements : first acknowledging that the balance was an error and that nothing was owed, then later claiming that the same or related amount is owed again. I believe this conduct is false, deceptive, and unfair. Wayfair/Citibank appears to be attempting to collect a balance that has no relationship to any valid transaction. If a company can create a balance without tying it to a purchase, item, service, or bill of origin, then demand payment under threat of negative credit reporting, that is a serious consumer protection issue. I believe this may reflect a broader policy or practice that could be used to improperly collect money from consumers who do not actually owe it. I am requesting that the CFPB review this conduct, including Wayfair/Citibanks billing records, dispute handling, credit reporting threats, and the companys failure to provide documentation supporting the alleged balance.
