Other transaction problem: Money transfer, virtual currency, or money service
My outgoing wire transfer to my own securities account was blocked by Citi 's Fraud Protection team, even though it was a legitimate transfer to an account I own. After the transfer was blocked, I contacted Citi 's Fraud Protection team multiple times to verify my identity and have the transaction released. However, I was repeatedly told that the email address and phone number already on file for my account could not be used for identity verification. Since Citi would not accept the contact information associated with my account and did not provide a reasonable alternative verification method, I was left with no way to prove that I am the legitimate account owner. In addition, some of the verification methods they requested felt unsafe. For example, I was asked to read aloud my card number and the CVV code to a live representative. I was concerned that the person on the call could record that information and potentially use it in a way that would not be in my interest. As a result, my wire transfer remains blocked with no clear resolution. I believe Citi 's fraud prevention process has a fundamental design flaw. Instead of protecting customers while allowing legitimate account owners to verify their identity through reasonable and secure alternative methods, the current process creates a deadlock where legitimate customers can become locked out of their own transactions. I made multiple attempts to resolve this issue through Citi 's Fraud Protection team, but no effective solution or secure alternative verification process was provided.
