Trouble using your card: Credit card
I am filing a complaint regarding a systemic flaw in credit reporting data pipeline mechanics that unfairly penalizes financially responsible consumers. Recently, Citibank/The Home Depot reduced my credit limit solely due to non-use. I do not owe a balance on this account. My complaint is not with the lender 's right to reduce the limit, but with the failure of the system to differentiate the reason for the reduction. Because banks do not transmit a specific 'inactivity ' reason code alongside limit drops, the automated credit scoring models automatically trigger a utilization penalty. The industry already has the trended data to fix this. The scoring models could easily review historical zero-balances to see that a drop was triggered by inactivity, not risk. Treating responsible, zero-balance behavior as an active risk metric creates a distorted reflection of consumer creditworthiness. I request that the CFPB push for data standardization requiring a distinct reporting classification for inactivity-based reductions versus risk-based reductions.
