Attempts to collect debt not owed: Debt collection
I am formally disputing this account because I do not believe it has been properly verified as belonging to me. I have previously requested that the debt collector provide documentation proving that I am legally responsible for this debt, including proof of ownership, a complete chain of assignment, and an original signed contract or agreement bearing my signature. To date, I have not received sufficient documentation establishing that this debt belongs to me. I have been the victim of identity theft in the past and therefore require proper verification before accepting responsibility for any alleged debt. Simply reporting that a debt exists is not proof that I entered into an agreement or that I am the individual responsible for the account. Under the Fair Credit Reporting Act, I am requesting that you conduct a reasonable investigation into this account and require the furnisher to provide competent evidence that the debt belongs to me. If the furnisher can not provide documentation proving ownership of the debt and my legal obligation to pay it, I request that this account be removed from my credit report as unverifiable information. Please provide the method of verification used during your investigation and the documentation relied upon to verify this account. If the account can not be fully substantiated, it should be deleted from my credit file.
