Closing an account: Checking or savings account
Wells Fargo notified me that my deposit accounts had been closed because they alleged that a fraudulent check in the amount of $1200.00 had been deposited into my account through the Wells Fargo mobile banking app. I immediately informed Wells Fargo that I had no knowledge of this transaction, that I did not deposit the check, and that I had never shared my online banking credentials with anyone. Wells Fargo advised me that my accounts would be closed and that any funds remaining in my accounts, excluding the disputed $1200.00 transaction, would be returned to me. However, despite waiting for my funds and repeatedly contacting Wells Fargo for updates, I have not received my money. Each time I called to follow up, I was told that my account had a zero balance. Wells Fargo has not provided me with an explanation of what happened to my funds or any evidence that I authorized or participated in the alleged fraudulent activity. I maintain that I had no knowledge of the alleged fraudulent check, did not deposit it, and did not provide my online banking credentials or account access to anyone. I believe I am the victim of fraud, yet Wells Fargo closed my accounts, retained my funds, and failed to adequately investigate or assist me. I am requesting a complete accounting of my account activity, an explanation of the disposition of my remaining account balance, copies of any records showing how the disputed check was deposited, and the immediate return of any funds that rightfully belong to me. Attached are copies of the letters I received from Wells Fargo regarding the account closure and the alleged fraudulent check..
