Closing your account: Credit card
I opened a Wells Fargo Reflect card online because I wanted to transfer 2 of my other credit card balances to the new card to have a 0 % interest rate for 21 months. An account was approved by Wells Fargo, but they did not give me a credit limit high enough to transfer the balances from other cards. I telephoned Wells Fargo and the female agent whom I spoke to indicated she was checking on the credit limit, but a moment later she returned and said I'd have to wait until my card arrived in approximately 8 days. I indicated to her that if the limit is not being raised, then I'd prefer to go elsewhere to get a 0 % interest rate, and I asked her to close this new account. She said she could not close it at this time, I'd need to wait and call in again after I received the Reflect card in the mail. I said I don't want to wait, I indicated again that I want the Reflect account closed now, and I explained that if it is open, and I apply for a credit card with another company, they are likely to deny the application because I show this new account open. The bank worker repeated what she had told me before, indicating I must wait until the card arrives, and then I can ask for a credit increase. I told her that I thought a push of a button should be able to cancel the new card. I then indicated to her that she should discuss this with her manager, for I am dissatisfied. I further advised her I intend to make a complaint. ( ended call ) Having the Reflect card showing active on my credit, negatively impacts my ability to get approved for a similar card that might have a higher credit limit.
