Managing an account: Checking or savings account
I am filing this complaint regarding Truist Banks repeated and inconsistent handling of my mobile check deposits. I have an established history of depositing checks through the Truist mobile banking app. To my knowledge, not a single mobile check I have deposited has ever been returned, bounced, or caused a loss to Truist Bank. Despite this positive history, Truist continues placing seemingly random holds on my deposits without providing a clear or specific explanation. Recently, I deposited a check through the mobile app and was forced to pay more than a $10.00 fee simply to gain immediate access to my own funds. The check cleared without issue. Now, after depositing another mobile check, Truist has once again placed a hold on the funds. What makes this particularly frustrating is that the check is shown in my account as successfully deposited, yet the funds remain unavailable because of a hold. There appears to be no consistent standard for when Truist decides to restrict access to deposited funds. From my perspective, these holds appear arbitrary and inconsistent with my account history. I am requesting that the CFPB investigate why Truist continues placing holds on my mobile deposits despite my history of successful deposits, determine whether Truist is complying with applicable funds availability requirements, and determine whether consumers are being unfairly required to pay additional fees simply to gain timely access to funds from checks that ultimately clear without issue. I also request that Truist provide a detailed explanation for the repeated holds placed on my account, identify the specific factors used to determine when a hold is applied, explain why my established deposit history has not been considered, and review whether these practices are consistent with federal consumer protection laws and the banks own disclosed funds availability policies. As a customer, I should not be subjected to unpredictable delays and additional costs when my deposit history demonstrates that my mobile check deposits consistently clear without incident. I respectfully request that the CFPB investigate these practices and require Truist to provide a full explanation and any appropriate corrective action.
