Managing an account: Checking or savings account
Complaint Against Truist Bank I am filing this complaint regarding Truist Banks decision to close my checking account without warning at a time when doing so caused severe financial hardship. I had been a customer of Truist Bank for an extended period and maintained my account throughout a period of unemployment. During that time, I relied on unemployment benefits and experienced financial difficulties while actively searching for work. As a result of being between jobs, my account became overdrawn. After months of unemployment, I finally secured employment and was scheduled to receive my first paycheck. However, on or around the same time my wages were expected to be deposited, Truist closed my account without prior notice that would have allowed me to make alternative arrangements for receiving my paycheck. The timing of this closure created significant financial harm. I was already facing eviction and depended on my upcoming paycheck to address my housing situation and other essential expenses. Because the account was closed, I was unable to access funds that I urgently needed for rent and basic living expenses. Had I been given reasonable notice of the impending closure, I could have updated my payroll information and taken steps to avoid the disruption. I understand that financial institutions may choose to close accounts under certain circumstances. However, I believe Truist failed to provide adequate notice and failed to consider the foreseeable harm that would result from closing an account immediately before a scheduled payroll deposit. I am requesting that Truist provide : 1. A detailed explanation of the reason for the account closure. 2. Documentation showing when and how notice of the closure was provided. 3. Information regarding the handling of any incoming direct deposits after the account closure. 4. Any available assistance or remediation for the financial hardship caused by the timing of this closure. As a long-time customer who remained with the bank during a period of financial difficulty and unemployment, I believe I deserved fair notice and an opportunity to make alternative banking arrangements before my account was closed. Thank you for your review of this matter.
